With love and gratitude, we remember Yong Soon Collins of Newport News, Virginia, who passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 24, 2026, surrounded by family. Her life was marked by resilience, devotion, and a selflessness that touched everyone who knew her.
Yong Soon was born on September 25, 1935, in Jeollanam-do (South Jeolla Province), South Korea. She was the eighth of eleven siblings.
Although she endured the hardships of the Korean War as a child, Yong Soon was known throughout her life for her generous and giving spirit, which she shared freely with others. Whether she was offering the best produce from her backyard garden, sending someone home with containers of food, or giving money to help meet a need, her generosity was selfless, ceaseless, and abundant.
She was the beloved wife of the late James Harrison Collins, originally of Hickory, North Carolina.
Yong Soon is survived by her four children: Catherine Greene of Peachtree City, Georgia; Connie Shamblin of Duluth, Georgia; Robert Collins of Frisco, Texas; and William Collins of Fannett, Texas. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 31, from 10 AM to 12 PM at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News,
