After a long battle with cancer, Wanda “Sue” York, 66, passed away on December 4, 2025, and is now resting comfortably. She was a long-time resident of Smithfield, VA and got to spend her final days in her cherished country home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Sandra Russell, her brother, Allen Russell, and her beloved husband, Mike York. She is survived by her daughters, Sherri Parker and Shawna Hatter, their families which include her six grandchildren, and other extended and found family, all of whom will miss her dearly.
She loved spending time kicking fall leaves around on walks, hanging enough Christmas lights to flag down Santa from space, pretending to be a pool shark, and spending time with her family and friends, even when it was pure chaos. She believed in the magic of unicorns, loved anything antique, and made it her life’s work to find the “perfect” leather purse. Known for making the best cakes and baked goods, being the first to suggest a shot of Jack, and belting out her favorite tunes while playing finger drums, Sue will be in our hearts forever.
The family will have a private memorial on December 13, 2025, and will be receiving friends and extended family afterwards. Please contact a member of the family for additional details. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you take a shot of Jack, listen to copious amounts of classic rock and offer your thoughts, prayers, presence and support as they navigate the waters of losing their mom, Nana and friend.

Rest in peace Sue. May they always be your quarters in the rail for next rack, your cakes never fail and Mr. Daniels will be the bar keep of the great beyond!!
Loved your mom and will miss her.
May you fly to heaven on the wings of Angels. You will be missed.
I’m so sorry for the loss of your dear loved one. May you find comfort and peace in God’s promise to wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more. – Revelation 21:4 Condolences
