Virginia Carolyn Addison

Virginia Carolyn Addison, 102, met her Lord and Savior face to face on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. She was born on December 14, 1922, in Roxboro, NC, and grew up in Brookneal, VA, with her aunt, Janie Jones. She left Brookneal to work in the Newport News Shipyard when she was 20, where she wrote poetry on top of the crane she operated. She met the love of her life in a boarding house where they both lived and eventually married on February 12, 1946 and continued their life together.

She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Edward Addison; her son, Thomas Edward Addison, Jr.; and daughter, Betsy Addison Game. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Addison Williams; son-in-law, David Earl Game; seven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. She found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren outside, taking long walks down ‘bump road,’ fishing, playing checkers, and traveling to watch their sports.

She was a longtime member of New Covenant Church in Hampton, Virginia. She faithfully attended the Aglow Bible Study with her best friend, Opal Little, and Temple Baptist Church’s Bible luncheon and fellowship. She loved the Lord, church, shopping, going to lunch with her friends, and getting her hair done every Friday. She was known for her pleasant personality, never saying a crossword and always having a positive outlook on life. She prayed diligently for her family and friends, and every morning she quoted: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways, submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Today, we know that she sits with Jesus and will live eternally with Him, and she would encourage each of you to put your faith in Christ and trust in Him above all else.

A graveside service will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News, VA, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025. The family will meet friends immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local church missions.
