Santa Minyety

With deep sorrow and love, we announce the passing of our loving mother, Santa Minyety, 67, on Monday, February 9, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on March 19, 1959, in the Dominican Republic, Santa was a woman of strength, unwavering faith, hard work, and a deep devotion to her family. She faced life’s challenges with resilience and dignity, always anchored in her belief in God. She was full of life, laughter, and a lot of sass. Santa worked for Canon for 6 years as a janitor.

She was a proud mother to Joe Minyety, Sudith Hairston, and Annid Maldonado, who were the joy of her life. She is lovingly remembered by her cherished grandchildren: the late Joey Minyety (God rest his soul), Sehlara Hairston, James Hairston, Gracie Maldonado, Julian Maldonado, and Benjamin Maldonado, mother, Amantina Gomez; sister, Alba Valera; and nieces Kathy Owens and Karen Genao, along with extended family members and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
Though cancer touched her body, it never diminished her spirit, her strength, or her faith. Her memory lives on in the lives she shaped, the love she gave, and the example she set.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 2:00 PM with a funeral service following at 3:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601, officiated by Kathy Owens. The family will meet at the Hairston home after the service.

In Santa’s honor, please wear something pink, as it was her favorite color. Upon leaving the service, please take a flower and a keepsake.

The family deeply appreciates the prayers, love, and support shown during this time. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Her beloved grandson, Joey Minyety, will be waiting for her at the gates of heaven." Dios es nuestro amparo y fortaleza, Nuestro pronto auxilio en las tribulaciones."
— Salmos 46:1

I had the pleasure of knowing Santa since 2020, she was the 1st consistent smiling face and such a SHINE of grace around her that it was hard not to notice. I love her Spirit, I love her Joy… and I will always love… her. Rest well my friend and will see you later.
