Samuel N. Weatherman, 65, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2026. He was a native of Hampton but had been a resident of Newport News for many years.
Samuel loved his family deeply, cherishing every moment spent with them, especially his beloved Momma. His compassion knew no bounds: when he wasn’t volunteering to feed the homeless or working tirelessly with the American Red Cross Disaster Relief coordination, he found peace on the water, fishing!
As a devoted Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Samuel’s faith guided his generous heart. He began his lifelong service as a volunteer Lantern Boy for the Hampton Fire Department and continued helping others well into adulthood.
Samuel’s kindness, warmth, and selflessness were woven into the fabric of his life. Holidays were especially meaningful to him, as he made it a tradition to “pay it forward” and brighten the lives of those in need, particularly the elderly.
Samuel’s passing leaves the world a little less bright, but the warmth of his spirit endures in everyone he touched. His legacy of kindness and generosity lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who crossed his path. May his example inspire us to carry forward his compassion and love, making the world a better place, just as he did.
Samuel was preceded in death by his sister, Pam Weatherman. He is survived by his wife, Helen Weatherman; his daughter, Kristina Weatherman; his sons, Joshua Weatherman and Zachary Shannon; and his parents, Brenda Buckingham and Robert Weatherman.
The family would like to invite all who knew and loved Samuel to join them in honoring his life and legacy at a memorial service on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, Virginia.
