Sammie N. Fowler

Sammie N. Fowler, 92, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2026, in Williamsburg, Virginia. She was a native of Lynchburg, Virginia, and had been a resident of Williamsburg for more than 10 years. Sammie enjoyed a long and successful career in banking. Some of her accomplishments include graduating from the banking programs at the University of Virginia and Rutgers University; earning the title of Vice President in the Commercial Loan Department of Wells Fargo; and being instrumental in the start-up of the Women’s Bank in Richmond in 1977. She retired from Wells Fargo. Several months after retirement, she was offered a position with Harbor Bank in Williamsburg. The bank later merged with TowneBank. A TowneBank office was opened in Patriots Colony, which she managed for ten years before retiring again.

Sammie was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Grayson Fowler. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Bergmann of Virginia Beach, VA; her son, Jack E. Mann, Jr. and wife Diane of Dexter, MO; five grandchildren, Kelli Bergmann, Samantha Wiggins and husband Nate, Paul Mann, Logan Mann and Dylan Mann; eight great-grandchildren, Eleanor Thomasson, Walter Thomasson, Brooklyn Wiggins, Ryan Wiggins, Addison Mann, Liam Mann, Gabe Mann and Eli Mann; and multiple nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 15, at 12:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, Virginia. Burial will be private.

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home.
