In Loving Memory of Ruby S. Talbert – Ruby S. Talbert passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 16, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. A devoted woman of faith, she was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was centered on her love for the Lord, her family, and service to others.
Born June 30, 1935, in Rockwell, North Carolina, Ruby was a member of Temple Baptist Church, where she found joy in worship, fellowship, and service. She served as a Sunday school teacher, sharing her faith, wisdom, and kindness with those she taught.
Ruby dedicated many years to the Newport News Public School System, serving as secretary to the principal. She took great pride in her work, the relationships she built, and is remembered for her kindness, dedication, and care for others.
Family was Ruby’s greatest joy. She is survived by her devoted husband of 73 years, Alton B. Talbert; her sons, David B. Talbert (Brenda) of Randolph, NJ, and Maury A. Talbert (Debbie) of Smithfield, VA; and the late Darren L. Talbert (Deborah).
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brian Talbert, Kristi Parker, Ashley LeBlanc, Lindsey Talbert, Michael Talbert, and Eric Talbert, as well as thirteen great-grandchildren who brought her immense pride and happiness.
Ruby was the heart of her family—always welcoming, nurturing, and ready with a story, a meal, or a warm embrace. Her home was a place of love, laughter, and lasting memories.
She was preceded in death by her son, Darren Talbert, and her siblings, Doris Deese, Ray Shipton, and Larry Shipton.
Her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace with the Lord she loved so deeply. Her faith, love, and legacy will live on through all who were blessed to know her.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
