Richard (Dicky) E. Pruitt Jr.

Richard (Dicky) E. Pruitt Jr., 75, of Carrollton, Virginia went to be with the Lord on January 6, 2025.

He was a native of Newport News, Virginia and graduated from Denbigh High School. After graduating, Dicky entered the United States Navy and served his country for four years. He spent his post-Naval career as a welder with Newport News Shipbuilding and later with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard until his retirement.

Dicky had a passion for music and enjoyed serving as a disc jockey for several former family establishments, such as King Richards and The Rack. He loved jokes, photography, football, horse racing and casinos. He loved buying the latest gadgets and if you liked something, then he would want you to have it, because the odds were that he had purchased more than one. He was considered the “King of Amazon” by his family. Dicky loved his family and had a huge sentimental heart.

He was preceded in rest by his parents Retired Battalion Chief Richard E. Pruitt, Sr. and Anne J. Pruitt, brother Thomas W. Pruitt, nephew John R. Kidd Jr., and nieces Anne Marie Pruitt and Elizabeth Pruitt.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Richard E. Pruitt III (Kerry) and Jonathan T. Pruitt (Jamie); his sisters Debbie Accardi, Donna Pruitt, and (sister-in-law) Patti Pruitt; his grandchildren Caleb Pruitt, Jordan Pruitt, Shelby Pruitt and Eva Pruitt; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces/nephews: Angela Summerlin (Greg), Tommy Pruitt, Patricia Warren (Josh), Lauren Wilson (Mat), Lindsey Montalvo (Adam), Christopher Proctor, Natalie Summerlin, Reagan Summerlin, Madison Douglas, Kaya Gregory, Christiana Gregory, Leiland Proctor, and Braxton Wilson.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.

A reception will immediately follow the burial and further information will be provided at the Funeral service.

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.

My Dear Sweet Brother, I had no idea you were ready to leave us. I feel that while we were waiting to find a treatment, Mom personally came and got you! I feel she did not want you to fight this fight alone. You were spared of going through the harsh treatments of Radiation and Chemotherapy. You were spared of the pain associated with this terrible disease and I am forever grateful and thankful to Our God for also sparing us to have to watch you go down that road again of slowly losing you without being able to help or give you the support you would have to had. My Dear Brother, CANCER DID NOT ROB YOU OF YOUR QUALITY OF LIFE, and for that I am thankful. You were so thoughtful to everyone, always wanting them to have it, if they acted like they liked it, they owned it, We would call each other on Saturdays or Sunday’s when our football team’s would play. Mine is The CHIEFS, he and my sisters team was The EAGLES ! On Christmas Day he said, I got you a little something for Christmas, but he was upset and disappointed it had not arrived! While he was in hospital, he had Angela my daughter check daily to see if it had arrived. The day after his passing, the package arrived. I opened it and begin to cry. It was a RED KANSAS CITY CHIEFS SWEATSHIRT with MY NAME IMPRINTED ON IT. He was so unique in his surprises. I’ll always keep the last gift from my brother with me forever and never ever forget the many funny ventures we took and shared! Technology was not full force while we were growing up, and he caught on sometimes. He would be upset looking up his stuff on line. He would call me and say that they had changed his passwords and he locked out couldn’t get into his accounts. I said who changed your passwords, he said Facebook, trying to convince me that they were keeping him from looking at his accounts. Laughingly I would explain how time sensitive and how you must put it in the way it was created! We would laugh 😆 but again, if the phone missed up he would again play the blame game of Verizon keeping him from making his call! As he stated, “They are screwing with me” God bless him! He was serious. I could write a book on my family. Each one was a different character. We never had a dull
Moment. Our Parents loved us and supported us through our lives! Like I said, things happened in our life that no one would believe, it was loving, caring and if something happened, we all would know it, and we always figured it out. We lived a fun. Loving Comfortable life. When Holidays came, we always had a house full! Our parents would always invite friends that hadn’t a place to go! I loved my family and everyone in our family knows that “DICKY” was “MOM’S FAVORITE”’ this is not a joke! So as I remember him today, I know that Our Mom came down from the heavens above and took him back to be with her. Peacefully he passed in his sleep and that makes my heart happy that he didn’t suffer from what he was going to approach in the New Year! Rest my brother! Send me the signs. 🪽👼 You will never be forgotten! I love you to the moon! P.S. any chance you can help with THE SUPER BOWL FOR ANOTHER CHIEFS WIN! 🥰 I promise I won’t be mad if EAGLES WIN!
