Norma “Lee” Jarrett

Norma “Lee” Jarrett, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 93 on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. She lived a life filled with love, service, and devotion to family and faith.

Born on February 10, 1933, in Comfort, West Virginia, Lee lived in Hampton, Virginia, for over 66 years. She was a woman of deep and abiding faith. She was a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church. For years, Lee served on the bereavement committee, taught Awana’s, and visited members in nursing homes and the homebound. Her faith guided her throughout her life and was reflected in her kindness, generosity, and dedication to others.

Lee worked as a food service manager for Hampton City Schools for more than 30 years. During her time there, she met Carol Moss, who became her devoted friend of over 50 years. Their enduring friendship was a source of joy and support throughout much of Lee’s life.

Lee’s greatest joy was her family. She cherished every opportunity to gather loved ones around her table, where they enjoyed her delicious cooking, warm hospitality, and loving presence. The memories created in her home and the love she shared with family and friends will be treasured for generations to come.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, and her son, Gary. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Vaillancourt (Larry), her son Larry Jarrett (Debbie), and her daughter-in-law, Digna Jarrett.

Surviving grandchildren are Brooke McInerney (Mike), Chad Vaillancourt (Kasey), Brittany Rodriguez (Marcus), Sheryl Flordeliz (Andrew), Brianna Jarrett, and Brandon Jarrett.

She was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Stella and Nolan McInerney, along with Aria Flordeliz and Mae Vaillancourt.

She is also survived by her sister, Sue Tawney and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 20, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home, with a funeral service following at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be held at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
