Nellie Ruth Smeltzer passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, surrounded by her daughters at her home. She was a native of the Peninsula.
Nellie was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Charles D. Smeltzer; mother, Elizabeth Martha Betts; father, Arthur Stanley Meadows; brother, Albert Ross Meadows; and two sisters. She is survived by three daughters, Tiffney Smith (Ken) of Newport News, Danielle Harbour (Marc) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Magen Atkins (James) of California, Maryland; five grandchildren, Ashley Skeens (Chris), Brandon Morris, Marc D. Harbour (Brianna), Richard Harbour (Danielle) and Alyssa Atkins; nine great-grandchildren; and brother, William Meadows (Lorraine).
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 27, at 10:00 a.m. at Temple Baptist Church, with Pastor Wes Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.

Tiffney, Danielle, and Magen- I am so sorry to hear about your mother’s passing. She was such a sweet lady with a smile and laugh that was so infectious. I pray that God will give you peace in this difficult time. Your mom may be physically gone but she will live on in your memories and in the memories of so many other people that she touched.
