Mary Suzanne Cash, 70, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Friendship Richfield Living Retirement Community in Salem, Virginia. Mary Sue was born January 24, 1955, and grew up in Newport News, Virginia, where she graduated from Menchville High School in 1973.

She married Michael Cash in 1975 and dedicated herself to raising their two sons together in Newport News before moving to Yorktown after his retirement. After his passing in 2019, she moved to Catawba, VA, to be closer to her oldest son and family.

Painting served as Mary Sue’s primary artistic outlet throughout her life, and she shared her artistic talents with her mother and brothers. She found joy in reading and was also adept at crocheting, crafting numerous blankets for loved ones. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend who appreciated the simple beauties of life.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Michael Cash; her mother, Mary Maxwell Atkins; her father, Jodie Lee Atkins Jr.; and her older brother, Jodie Lee Atkins III. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Jason Cash, his wife Lisa, and their daughter Maisey, of Catawba, VA; son David Cash, his wife Jesi, and their children Lily, Emma, and Brody, of Newport News, VA; and younger brother Gregory Atkins of Newport News, VA. She also leaves behind extended family, cherished friends, and neighbors.

The family will not be holding a visitation. Those who wish to honor Mary Sue and offer support are invited to the Graveside Service on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News, VA, near Nettles Drive, where she will be buried next to Michael.
To be at ease in the summer heat, please dress casually and comfortably for the event. Formal attire is not expected. David and Jesi invite family and friends to their home after the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters.
