Marina A. Koliopoulos of Hampton, Virginia, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, June 29, 2026. Marina was born on May 17, 1936, to Konstantinos and Maria Andreakos in Athens, Greece. She was raised in a one-bedroom home with her seven siblings, whom she adored. In 1958, Marina married George Koliopoulos of Skyros, Greece, and in 1959, the two welcomed their only son, Lycourgos. By the late 1960s, Marina had obtained a degree as an Aesthetician and operated her own aesthetics studio in the Pangrati neighborhood of Athens. In 1975, Marina and her son moved to the United States and were later joined by her husband, George, in Hampton, Virginia. Marina graduated as a hairstylist and opened her own Beauty shop, Marina’s Smart N’ Sassy, which she operated in Newport News until her retirement nearly 40 years later.
Marina is survived by her son: Lycourgos Koliopoulos; granddaughter, Eleni Koliopoulos; grandson, Yiorgos, and his wife, Rachel Koliopoulos, and their children (Marina’s great-grandchildren), Lycourgos and Leonidas Koliopoulos; granddaughter, Marina Merkes and her husband, Cody Merkes; her brother, Panagiotis Andreakos; and sister, Katerina Andreakos. Marina is predeceased by her husband, George Koliopoulos; her daughter-in-law, Panagiota Koliopoulos; and five of her siblings. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
Marina’s Trisagion service is scheduled for 3:00 pm on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd, Newport News, VA 23601.
