Margaret M. Remus of Spotswood, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Marcella Post Acute in Hampton, Virginia. She was 75 years old.
Born in the Bronx, New York, to Thomas and Mary (née Mann) Dolan, she resided in Lindenhurst before settling in Spotswood 50 years ago. She spent her final year of life near her daughter and son-in-law in Newport News, Virginia.
Prior to retiring, she worked in East Brunswick as a pharmacy technician for Pathmark Pharmacy for 45 years.
Margaret is remembered for her effortless ability to make friends, her sharp wit, and her famous apple pie and Irish soda bread. She was happiest when engaging in conversation over a hot cup of coffee.
Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Raymond C. Remus. The two met at a drum corps show in Connecticut, prompting Ray to frequently brave the 100-mile drive from Point Pleasant Beach to Lindenhurst just to take her on dates. Married when Margaret was only 19, they remained completely inseparable until Ray’s passing on September 14, 2023.
She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Maureen Randall, Cecelia Dolan, Lucille Dolan, and Patricia Celenski.
Surviving is her daughter, Erin Wood, and her husband, Jeff, of Newport News, Virginia; her grandchildren, Ingrid Remus and Hudson and Noland Wood; and her siblings, Lorraine Sessa, Marion Marks, James Dolan, and Thomas Dolan.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, September 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Burial Park, 840 Cranbury-South River Road, Jamesburg. Friends and family are welcome to join in saying a final goodbye to Margaret. To allow time to settle before the service begins, we ask that guests arrive by 10:30 a.m.
Margaret was incredibly grateful for the blood transfusions that extended her life. In lieu of flowers, please schedule a donation at your local blood center.
