Judy Foster Thomas

Our beloved mother, Judy Foster Thomas, 79, of Yorktown, VA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.  Born on December 27, 1946, to William and Charlene Foster, she grew up in Newport News, VA, and went on to graduate from the College of William & Mary.  Shortly thereafter, she married the love of her life, James “Ronnie” Thomas, on August 9, 1969.  Together, they raised a family in Yorktown, VA, while she taught elementary education in the Newport News School system.  She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

After teaching for over 30 years, she retired, and her dedication to teaching extended to her family life.  She lovingly reshaped the lives of her grandchildren and played an instrumental role in guiding them throughout the years.  Granny, as she was affectionately known, was lucky to have Kim and the boys living right around the corner.

The rest of her free time was spent with Ronnie at home or in the country.  One of their favorite pastimes together was going to Ocracoke, NC, for a week in the summer.  Mrs. Judy always quietly sat back and let Ronnie lead the show.  Her grace and poise shone bright, but on rare occasions, she would join in dancing to her favorite old tunes.

Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie, their infant son, Kevin, her parents, William and Charlene, and her cousins, Mary Hux, Joan Foster, and Brenda Snyder.

Judy is survived by daughter Kimberly Thomas (Andrew), son Brad Thomas (Sharon), and grandsons Kevin Rogers, Kyle Rogers, Wyatt Thomas, and Dylan Thomas.  She is also survived by her dog Mona.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.

I will forever cherish the memories made in LKG and the wonderful bond her and my mom Mary had. I know she is celebrating her reunion with her loved ones. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Some of the best times of my life were when Judy, Ann Fitzgerald, and my sister, Linda Harvey, and me, played bridge. It was just us 4 and we laughed our butts off on many bridge nights. I remember Judy and Ronnie at cookouts. Always fun times and great memories. I’m glad I got to know them both. I’m sorry for your loss.
