Jean Faye Brickhouse Waller

Jean Faye Brickhouse Waller, affectionately known as Faye, age 87, of Carrollton, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia. Born on November 7, 1938, in Pasquotank County, North Carolina, she devoted her life to being a homemaker, mother, caregiver, grandmother, and great‑grandmother.

Faye spent many years in Newport News before she and her late husband, George A. Waller, bought and built their dream home on fifty acres of farmland in Carrollton—a place that became the heart of countless family memories.

Deeply committed to her faith, Faye was active in church life at both Deer Park Baptist Church in Newport News and Carrollton Baptist Church in Carrollton. At Deer Park, she served as a Sunday School teacher, choir and handbell member, director of Vacation Bible School, and mistress of ceremonies for numerous weddings. At Carrollton Baptist Church, she supported her husband in constructing an addition that provided much‑needed classroom space. She also catered events throughout the community, sharing her talents and hospitality with many.

Faye was gifted at cross-stitch and plastic canvas work, creating toilet-tissue dolls, tissue boxes, and handmade gifts for friends and family. She loved staying busy, and her crafts brought joy to everyone who received them.

Her greatest act of devotion was the care she provided to her husband during his four‑year battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS). Determined to honor her promise that he would remain at home, she became his full‑time caregiver. She even earned her driver’s license later in life—despite never learning as a teenager—to ensure he could attend appointments and church. Her dedication was unwavering.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent Brickhouse and Esther Brothers Brickhouse, her sister Peggy Harris, and her brothers Vincent Brickhouse, Jr. and Frank Brickhouse.

Left to cherish her memory are her three sons: Darryl Waller, PhD, Brian Waller, and Stephen Waller (Candice); seven grandchildren: Shannon, PhD (Jason), Amanda (Mike), Keith, Laura, Dalton (Lauren), and Alex; and seven great‑grandchildren: Austin, Colton, Seth, Blake, London, Kiara, Waylon, and one great‑grandson on the way, Jacob.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 26, 2026, beginning at 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:00 noon. Visitation and services will be held at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601. Burial will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.

Through the years, I have enjoyed friendship with Faye at Carrollton Baptist Church. Both of them were valuable in the support of the body life of the church. During George’s illness, I was able to have the privilege of serving George and Faye and getting to know them in their home. What joy it is to know that they are reunited!
