James “Jim” E. Lassiter, 93, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. He was a native of Baltimore, Maryland, and had been a resident of Poquoson, Virginia, for the last 4 years. Jim served in the U.S. Navy and retired after 29 years as a Chief Petty Officer; he was proud of his service. After his retirement, he went to work as an Engineer Analyst for Newport News Shipbuilding for the next 10 years.

Jim was a member of Liberty Live Church and loved going each Sunday, serving as a church usher and greeting people as they entered. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and Royal Arts. He loved his masonic brothers and all their activities.

He loved traveling with his wife and family, and especially his grandchildren. He was a true family man. He had a dry wit, loved jokes, and had the most beautiful smile. Jim was a collector – he collected miniature cars, belonged to the train club, and had quite a collection of miniature trains.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Margaret Lassiter, his first wife, Janice, and his daughter, Karen Snead. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Faye Horne Lassiter; sons, Robert Horne (Michele) and David Horne (Mary); five grandchildren, Michael Snead (partner Maria), James Snead (Amanda), Christina Gaita (Sammy), Danni Horne, and Nicholas Horne; one great-grandchild, Aaron Gaita; and his brother, Phil Lassiter (Louise).

He passed at peace, knowing his family’s love for him and grateful for his life experiences.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 3, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Liberty Live Baptist Church, with a funeral service following at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at Peninsula Memorial Park.
