George Edward Day

George Edward Day, 88, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2025, in Yorktown, Virginia. Born on May 27, 1937, in Jenkin Jones, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Albert Glen Day and Bessie Marie Day.

George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose presence shaped the lives of everyone blessed to know him. He shared 69 wonderful years with his loving wife, Loretta Day, building a life grounded in faith, resilience, and unwavering love.

He is survived by his children, Ellen Day, Greg Day, and Karen Pate (Richard); his grandchildren, Kristen Starcher (Glen), Daniel Frishkorn, Jordan Frishkorn, Michael Pate (Ashley), Holly Payne (Craig), Zac Day, Zeb Day, and Presley Day; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Dreama, Grace, Chance, Hunter, and Tripp; and a host of nieces and nephews. His family was his life’s greatest joy, and he never missed an opportunity to support or celebrate them.

George proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for five years before embarking on a distinguished 33-year career with Exxon USA, retiring as a superintendent. He was admired for his work ethic, leadership, and the respect he showed to colleagues throughout his career.

A man of faith and fellowship, George was a member of Parkview Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge, where he built lasting friendships and supported his community.

In his free time, he enjoyed watching sports, traveling with his family, tending to his yard, and sharing stories. His happiest days were those spent with his grandchildren, creating memories they will hold dear forever.

Special thanks to Holly and Jordan for their loving care of their Papaw. The family also thanks Anjolie and the Trinity Hospice team for their care, and to Robin Kennedy for her unconditional love for her Uncle George.

George will be remembered for his kindness, humility, sense of humor, and the steadfast love he gave so freely. His legacy lives on in the generations he helped guide, in the values he instilled, and in the countless hearts he touched.

The family will receive friends and family at a visitation to be held at Peninsula Funeral Home on Monday, December 8, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service honoring his life will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., with entombment to follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.

Memorial donations may be made in George’s memory to Lighthouse Church, 604 Hilton Blvd., Newport News, VA 23605, or the Alzheimer’s Association (https://donorservices.alz.org/).

His family finds comfort in knowing he is at peace and reunited with those who went before him. George will be deeply missed and forever cheris
