Freda M. Chauvin, 90, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. She was born in Kansas and was a resident of Newport News. Freda spent many years working as a banker and retired from what is now Wells Fargo. She was a lifelong Methodist.
Freda enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and growing vegetables. She was a devoted and loving wife, known for her kindness. She was the heart of her family as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always supportive and involved in her children’s lives.
Her legacy of hard work, love, and compassion will continue in the lives of everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
Freda was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Chauvin; her parents, Bertha Lowrance and Jay Fred Morgan; and her sisters, Martha, Evelyn, and Alice. She is survived by her daughters Marilyn (John, deceased), Elaine, and Brenda (David); her sons Joseph (Patricia) and Kenneth; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 10, at 11:00 a.m. at Parklawn Memorial Cemetery.
