Ella Ruth Williford Clark, 101, daughter of the late Patti and Leslie Williford, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, surrounded by family. A native of Bertie County, N.C., she had been a resident of Newport News most of her life.
She was a member of Parkview United Methodist Church and a caregiver to many. Ella loved flowers and grew many from cuttings. Her garden had more flowers than Azalea Gardens.
Ella was preceded in death by her best friend and husband of 57 years, Bernard “Puddin’” Clark, Sr., and her sisters, Ruby Knight and Betty Spencer.
Survivors include her son, Bernie Clark, Jr. and wife, Pat; daughter, Linda Davis; 3 grandsons, Craig Davis and wife, Julie, Lee Davis, and wife, Michele and Eddie Mann; 3 great-grandchildren, Allison Hudgins and husband, Martin, Tyler Davis, and Caitlyn Davis; numerous nieces and nephews; and her very special friend and caregiver, Liz Hicks.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Peninsula Memorial Park, with Chaplain Kathy Gray officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

My love and prayers are with the family. Ms Ruth was a very special lady who stole my heart right away, I so enjoyed our morning coffee and chats. She will be missed but she is now in a happy painless place.
