Surrounded by the love of family and sustained by faith, Daniel W. Boutwell went home to be with the Lord April 14, 2025, at the age of 88.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Marie M. Boutwell; his son, Daniel W. Boutwell Jr. (Amy); his daughter, Denise M. Byrd (Tommy); six stepchildren, Judy F. Wright, Peggy A. Newman, Malinda Miller, Catherine Decker (Charles), and Carol Dinsmore (Jeff); his stepson, Calvin J. Carter Jr.; and many cherished grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel W. and Lois M. Boutwell, and by his first wife, Peggy Ruth Boutwell.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Cold War as a helicopter mechanic and flight control specialist. During his service, he also wrestled with the Fort Eustis wrestling team. Dan excelled in everything he did and held master licenses in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and natural gas. He was the proud owner and operator of Temp-Rite Service Co., Inc.
Dan, along with his wife, loved traveling across the country in their motorcoach and riding their trikes. In 2018, they settled on a peaceful 33 acre farm in Brunswick County, where he enjoyed being outdoors and watching the deer and turkeys that roamed his land.
The family will receive friends for public visitation on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home, located at 11144 Warwick Boulevard, Newport News, VA 23601. A service will follow at 2:00 p.m., with interment at Peninsula Memorial Park at 3:00 p.m. The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the compassionate care and services provided by the Hospice of Virginia.
In his own words, “But for life, there is no opportunity for death. I will surely miss my family and all the many good people I’ve known during my lifetime. GOD IS ALWAYS IN CONTROL!”
