Carolyn Webb Harvey, of Newport News, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at the age of 85.
Born on January 8, 1941, in Hampton, Virginia, Carolyn lived a life defined by love, devotion, and caring for others. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose kindness extended well beyond her immediate family. To those who knew and loved her, she was affectionately known as βNana,β a name that reflected the special place she held in so many hearts.
After graduating from high school, Carolyn began her working career as a secretary in the Hampton, Virginia, court system. It was there that she met James βJimβ Harvey, the man who would become her husband. They were married in June 1962 and built a life together centered on family, commitment, and love. Jim preceded Carolyn in death in December 2011.
Carolyn later transitioned into the medical field, where she held a variety of positions, including medical transcriptionist, medical billing specialist, and office manager. Her dedication and commitment to her work were evident throughout her career, particularly during her 40 years at the Peninsula Plastic Surgery Center. Over those decades, she became a familiar and valued presence, building relationships with colleagues who became much more than coworkers.
Above all else, Carolyn was devoted to her family, both at home and at work. She was the person people could count on when they needed help, support, or a caring presence. Whether someone was related to her or had simply become part of her extended circle of family and friends, Carolyn was always willing to lend a hand. Caring for others was not something she did only when convenient; it was simply who she was.
Her devotion was especially evident in the care she gave Jim as his health declined. She stood by him and attended to his needs until his passing in December 2011. The love and commitment she demonstrated throughout their marriage reflected the strength of their bond and the importance she placed on being there for the people she loved.
Carolyn found enjoyment in cooking and reading, and she had a special love for her dogs. Her most recent companions, Sydney and Mia, brought her joy and held a special place in her heart.
Carolyn will be lovingly remembered by her son, Michael Harvey, and his wife, Noelle; her daughter, Susan Mull, and her husband, Ronnie; her two grandsons, Brandon Worley and Justin Harvey; and her twin sister, Marolyn Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James βJimβ Harvey, who passed away in December 2011, and her sister, Deborah Lane.
Carolyn leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to others. She will be remembered for her generous heart, her willingness to help anyone in need, and the countless ways she made others feel cared for. The name βNanaβ was more than a nickname; it represented the warmth, loyalty, and love she shared with those fortunate enough to know her.
Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, and the many lives she touched throughout her 85 years. Her family will forever be grateful for the love she gave and the example she set through a lifetime of caring for others.
A visitation for Carolyn will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026, beginning at 12:30 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. Following the service, a private burial will take place at Peninsula Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers please give to Michael J. Fox Foundation
