Beverly Sweet

Beverly Sweet, 68, of Gloucester, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 3, 2026. Born on February 24, 1957, in Newport News, she was the daughter of the late Betty Jean and Lewis H. Riley.

Beverly was a devoted wife, loving mother, and treasured friend. Her kindness and steady presence touched the lives of many. She married Clyde Nicholas Sweet, the love of her life, on October 9, 1971. Together, they built a life rooted in love, family, and dedication.

For 33 years, Beverly served Gloucester County Public Schools Transportation as a school bus driver and trainer. A beloved member of the GCPS Transportation family, she will be remembered for her patience, mentorship, and genuine care for others.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved son, Clyde Nicholas Sweet II. Beverly is survived by her devoted husband, Clyde Nicholas Sweet, their grandson Clyde Nicholas Sweet III, her Aunt Tricia Wall, and many loved ones who will forever cherish her memory.

Interment will be private at Peninsula Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Peninsula Funeral Home, Newport News, Virginia.

    I’m not sure what made me think of her today but to see this makes me sad. She by far was my favorite bus driver. I remember walking to another bus stop just so I could ride her bus still. Although I had not spoken to her since my school days in the 90’s, I still remember her and her kindness and warmth.
