With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of our guiding light, Patricia Tolley, who entered eternal rest on Thursday, May 8, 2025.
Patricia was born in South Boston, VA, on June 14, 1953, to Dewey Eugene Dunaway and Margaret Davis Atkins. She was predeceased by her parents, Dewey and Margaret, her sister Carolyn Howard, her brother-in-law Ernest Howard, her aunt Alice Dunaway, and her father-in-law Fred Tolley. Patricia was a senior loan processor at Old Point National Bank, where she started 16 years ago. Prior to banking, she devoted several years to healthcare, working in Nuclear Medicine at Riverside.
She also served her country in a civilian capacity as the head secretary for Tactical Air Command at Langley Air Force Base. Patricia’s commitment to her work was matched only by her kindness, integrity, and ability to make everyone around her feel valued. Patricia had a deep love for animals and found peace in the simple joy of feeding the birds and deer that visited her yard. She cherished time with her family, and her warmth and presence made every gathering feel special.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of fifty years, John Burnham Tolley; her daughters, Ashley Marie Tolley and Stephanie Allyn Gage; her sister, Charlise Carpenter Depelteau; and brother-in-law, Dan Depelteau; granddaughters Maggie Nichole Gage and Natalie Michelle Gage, who will continue to honor her legacy by living with the same love and joy she so freely gave.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Peninsula Funeral Home. In honor of Patricia’s bright and joyful spirit, the family kindly requests that guests wear vibrant colors, especially her favorite, pink.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Patricia’s name to your favorite local animal shelter or rescue group as a way to continue her legacy of love and care for others.
Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home.
