Walter “Richard” Arrington, 94, passed away on October 1, 2023. He was a native of Oxford, N.C., and had been a resident of Newport News since 1955. Richard, as the family called him, was a veteran of WW2 in the U.S. Navy and a Veteran of Korea, serving then in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from the Newport News Public School System as a Maintenance Supervisor. Richard was a member of First Baptist Church Newport News.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife and best friend, Mariel, in September 2016 after 65 years of marriage.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Terry A. Cooper, and son Jeffery Arrington (Kathy) of Newport News; granddaughter Courtney C. Wisecarver (Micah); grandsons, Christopher Cooper and Andrew Arrington; three great-grandchildren, Quinn Wisecarver, Heidi Wisecarver, and Cooper Wisecarver of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; brother, Norman Arrington of Idaho; special cousin, Bea Parrish of Hampton; and his special fur baby, Mitzi.

A graveside service was held on October 5, 2023.
