Timothy L. Newton

Tim Newton, 69, of Newport News, VA, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. Tim had been a Peninsula resident since 1970.

Tim was born on January 13, 1955, in San Diego, California, of the late Clifford “Newt” Newton and Olga Z. Newton. He was preceded in death by a special nephew, Patrick Glaude.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ruthann Newton; daughters, Elizabeth Newton and Stephanie Newton Ray (Stephen); son, Joey Newton; and grandson, Ezra Ray. He is also survived by his brother Michael Newton (Joyce) and a host of extended family.

Tim was an avid outdoorsman with a specific love and connection to the mountains of southwestern Virginia and Cape Hatteras, NC. Some of his happiest and most peaceful moments were when he was in nature.

Tim leaves behind a legacy of patriotism and work ethic, kindness towards animals, an ability to speak with and connect with anyone he crossed paths with, and most of all, a deep love for his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Peninsula Funeral Home, followed by a reception. There will be a private burial at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in Tim’s memory.
