Susan P. Miller

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Susan P. Miller on Thursday, December 14, 2023. She is an Angel amongst so many who passed before her in the arms of our Heavenly Father, including her mother and father, Jean and Donald Pulsifer, her father-in-law Cecil Miller Sr., and several others who were dear to her heart.

She was a lifetime resident of Hampton Roads and graduated from Denbigh High School. She met the love of her life, Cecil Miller Jr., at Calvary Baptist Church, where they were both members. They would have been married for 41 years on December 18.

Susan worked at Fort Eustis and Fort Monroe. She retired from the Joint Warfighting Center in August of 1998 as a Budget Assistant. She received many awards and outstanding reviews; her reputation earned the respect of many.

Susan fought a battle with Multiple Sclerosis for over 40 years with such strength, courage, and beauty.

She leaves many behind to cherish her memory: her husband Cecil Miller Jr.; daughters Julie Kilburn (David) and Melissa Smith; son Todd Goodson (Jenn); seven grandchildren Jared, Tinley, Tate, Kennedy, Tanner, Finn, and Anderson; a special mother-in-law Betty Miller; siblings Steve Pulsifer (Ann), Beverly Yarrington; sister-in-law Sandy Snapp (Donnie); nieces and nephews that she loves dearly, Jennifer (Jon), Shelby and Aubrey Moore, Kayla Snapp (Brian and Ava Adams), Matthew (Amanda) Pulsifer; and many cousins and friends.

Susan was loved by so many; she had a smile that would light up a room, and her eyes were so beautiful, like the ocean.

While we miss her so deeply, we will care for each other in ways that she cared for all of us. Susan had strength that was admired by all around her. She loved her family more than anything.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Riverside’s Dr. John Livingstone and Dr. Chip Harris. Dr. Livingstone, thank you for always finding and researching ways to help Susan. Dr. Chip Harris, thank you for keeping her loving heart going for as long as it did.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Susan’s memory to the National MS Society

The family would like to host a Celebration of Life with an Open House at the Miller’s Residence on Monday, December 18, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home.

So happy to have met Susan. Loving and witty, a great friend. “You light up my life” and others. I cherish the time spent with her, Susan’s heart was big enough to love everyone, and small enough to find where each person fits. I know that she had a special place there for me. Love always. Will always remember her.

We very sorry to hear of Susan’s passing. I have known Susan since working with her at Fort Eustis many years ago. And, later living two doors from each other for the past 20 years. Susan has always been the sweetest person that we have known. She always had a kind word to say. She battled MS with such dignity. Our family always admired her strength. She is now a beautiful Angel in Heaven. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Miller family.
