Stan Wheless (Stan The Man)

Stan Wheless (Stan The Man), 69, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023. He was born and raised in Phoebus.

Stan was a 1971 graduate of Kecoughtan High School. He also attended Thomas Nelson Community College. Stan worked at Newport News Shipbuilding for twenty-five years.

He was a member of the local bowling family at Century Lanes. Stan bowled in numerous Virginia statewide tournaments and received multiple 300-game awards.

Stan was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Wheless Nassrineboo; and nieces, Susan and Diane Evans.

He will be missed by the love of his life, Nancy; daughters, Dawn Jackson and Amy Barnes; son-in-law, Shane Barnes; best friend, Curtis Jackson; sisters, Phyllis Evans, Alice Wheless, and Linda Wheless-Kurfees; brothers, Charles Wheless and Jimmy Wheless; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Stan was “Pop” to granddaughters, Amber and Olivia Jackson, and to grandson Drake Barnes.

He will be missed by family and friends.

    Nancy, I’m so sorry to hear about your husband. I know it is a lost to you and your family. I lost Bud in September and life is not the same. I’m so sorry. Joyce D’Bene – I worked in Word Control in NNS.

    Stan was an outstanding person, a real sweetheart!!! Sending many many prayers up for Nancy and family. I pray you feel God’s loving arms wrapped around each of you, especially Nancy, and the love of all your friends. Stan will be missed and never ever forgotten. We love you Nancy!!!!
