Rocco H. Venella

Rocco H. Venella, 98, passed away peacefully on the morning of February 2, 2024. Rocco Venella was born September 29, 1925, in Camden, New Jersey, and the oldest of three children born to Harry and Mary Louise Venella (Nocito). He served his country in the Navy Corps during World War II as a medic to the 1st Marine Division in the Pacific. When he returned home, he met and married his beloved wife of 76 years, Doris A. Venella (Edwards). Mr. Venella became a teacher and later Principal in Mt. Holly, New Jersey. After retiring, Mr. And Mrs. Venella moved to Newport News, Virginia, to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Mr. Venella, also known as “Roc” and to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as “Pop,” leaves behind to celebrate his life and legacy : his wife, Doris “Reb” Venella, his son, Steven Venella (Sandra) of Gainesville, Georgia, his daughter, Susan Berrane (Bradley) of Yorktown, Virginia, his brother, Louis Venella of Florida, his sister, Mary Lou Cunningham of New Jersey, his four grandchildren: Joseph, Pamela, Brittany, and Danielle, and his ten great-grandchildren.

The family of Rocco H. Venella is aware of how fortunate they are to have their patriarch for nearly a century, but he will be greatly missed as their family’s strong, generous, and loving center. He was truly their “Roc” in every way. Mr. Venella’s memorial details will be released at a later date.
