Jean passed away on Monday,  June 3, 2024, at her home in Newport News, Virginia.  She was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and devout Christian.

Jean loved serving her church, the Woman’s Club of Hilton Village, and many other charities in the community.  She loved giving back and doing for others.  Jean spent many, many decades working to care for and contribute to her family and community.  Jean always strived for excellence as she assisted and managed multiple medical offices here on the peninsula.

She was predeceased by her husband, Marvin E. Richardson (Marty), her parents, and seven siblings.  Jean is survived by her daughters Tammy Sheldon (Mike) and Melissa Maier; grandsons Michael Sheldon, Cory Maier (Emily), Dawson Maier (Bria); sisters Janice Lopez and Sandra Watkins; brothers Donald Bennington (Daphne), and Robert Bennington (Martha); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service will be held for Jean and her beloved husband Marty (who left to be with the Lord on January 23, 2021) at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News for family members only for the internment of their ashes.

A second service will be held, with a reception to follow, on June 29, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at First United Church of Christ, 1017 Todds Lane, in Hampton, VA, for all who want to celebrate Jean and Marty’s lives.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations go to the American Heart Association or the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Jean was one of my favorite people in the Woman’s club of Hilton Village. She was always so kind, thoughtful and very willing to help support the club activities. Jean will be so missed. I am happy that she attended our last club luncheon in May. Rest in peace friend.
