Peter Micali, age 76, passed away on 8/5/21. Peter was born in a small town, Millitello, val Catania, Sicily on May 19, 1945. At the age of 9, his family imigrated to the U.S. and made their home in The Bronx, N.Y.
It was there Peter began his legacy. At the age of 15 he met his wife to be, Lucille Campanaro, at Theodore Roosevelt H.S.
At the age of 17 he bought his first business, an Italian deli/grocery store, while completing his H.S. education at night.
At 19 he received his first draft notice and within 3 months was on his way to basic training, A.I.T. and then Vietnam. Upon his return home in 1967, he and his H.S. sweetheart planned their wedding and in August 1968, they were married.
The following year he bought another business, in Astoria, Queens. His successfully built that business and then moved on. He opened a hugely successful deli, pizzeria and in-house catering in Bayside, Queens.
With his wife, Lucille at his side, they raised 2 sons, Peter and Paul. Both sons would grow to spend their teen years helping dad in his catering business. Together as a family and with their extended family they had a 20-year success story.
In 2001, they made their move to Virginia and with his son Peter, opened the successful Bellissimo Pizza in Williamsburg.
He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. His generosity, kindness and friendship were felt by all who knew him.
Peter is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lucille; sons, Peter and wife Shannon, and their 2 sons Aedan and Luca, and Paul and his wife Kimberly and their 2 daughters Grace and Ruby; brother, Enzo; and sisters, Lucy, Mary and Lisa.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 10, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 116 Denbigh Blvd., Newport News.
