Norris Ketchum Roberts

Norris Ketchum Roberts, born on March 18, 1923, passed into his celestial home on June 23, 2023.

He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife Mary Cody Roberts of seventy-four years; daughters, Patricia Ann (infant) and Karen R. Rancorn; two brothers; and five sisters. He was the last survivor of his parents’ children.

He is survived by his son, Barry Roberts, and wife Lynn of Newport News; two adopted daughters, Penny Deavers of Clanton, Alabama, and Patricia Gaskins and husband Donnie of Hampton, VA; granddaughters Jennifer and Heather Roberts; grandson Clayton Gaskins and wife Kim; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He loved his family and cherished the memories of good times shared during many family events, especially during the Christmas season.

Norris was born and raised in Newport News where he attended public school. He later completed a six-year apprenticeship in Printing Craftsmanship with a local firm where he was employed for 45 years. He had a strong work ethic and believed that “if the task is worth doing, it’s worth doing right.”

He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Newport News and an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII. Norris was a dedicated member of Clanton Masonic Lodge #423 of Clanton, AL; McMahon Lodge #303 of Newport News; and Scottish Rite Khedive Shrine Temple in Chesapeake, VA.

His family sincerely thanks all the wonderful staff of Keswick Place and Riverside Lifelong Health and Rehabilitation at Warwick Forest.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to First Baptist Church of Newport News, Shriners Hospitals for Children, or a charity of your choice.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park Thursday, June 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.
