Norma Joyce Parsons

Norma J. Parsons, born August 16, 1932, in Gainesville, Texas, was the youngest of three daughters of Sheriff Emory Horn and his wife, Enod Grundy. Norma graduated from Gainesville High, where she met William P. Parsons. They married in 1953. As the family’s anchor, she raised their three children through the demands of Bill’s Air Force career. In 1983, Bill retired as Colonel after 24 years of service. Eventually, they relocated permanently to Newport News, VA, to be close to their family.

Norma was well-known by family and friends for her creative energies and imagination. She discovered a passion for photography in her later years. Norma was an active member of several photography groups. Her photos were published in the local newspaper and included in several local museum exhibits. She loved last-minute spontaneous road trips and always had cameras in hand.

Norma departed this life on Saturday, November 11, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William P. Parsons (Bill); and sister, Mildred Gault of Texas.

Norma is survived by her children, Chris Parsons of San Pancho, Mexico, Penny Sain and her husband John of Charles City, VA, Leanne Krause of Newport News, VA; sister Wynelle Martin of Texas; grandchildren, Ashley Blackmon and her husband Zack, Chip Krause and his wife Nikki, Michael Krause and his wife Amanda; great-grandchildren Makenzie, Bryce, Baylor and Tommy; along with several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will occur on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. The funeral service will occur on Monday, November 20, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Here For The Girls, Inc. (1309 Jamestown Rd. Ste 204, Williamsburg, VA 23185) or Smith Memorial Baptist Church (6515 Richmond Rd., Williamsburg, VA 23188).

    So grateful I was able to watch Ms Norma’s service via live streaming….what a beautiful service it was for a beautiful lady….we share being Air Force officer wives! Not always easy! Penny…Leanne….Chris…your sweet Mother is so proud of you all for taking care of her during these last weeks….now she is with the Lord Jesus and your Dad….no more tears….no more pain…we give God all the glory for her beautiful life….❤️
