Nell S. Boren

Nell S. Boren, 69, of Yorktown, Virginia, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, August 18, 2023.  She was a native of Newport News. She was the daughter of the late James C. Jr. and Daisy M. Stephenson.  

Nell was a native of Hidenwood in Newport News and swam for Hidenwood Recreation Association. Nicknamed Gypsy, she was a student at Ferguson High School and a graduate of Christopher Newport College. She worked diligently to obtain her CPA certification while raising her two children. Nell worked for John Churchill CPA, eventually taking over the business as Nell S. Boren CPA until retirement in 2015. She enjoyed boating, spending time with her family, chocolate cake, and watching nature from her back porch. 

Nell was preceded in death by her sister Lisa Puckett.  She is survived by her loving husband and high school sweetheart of 50 years, William “Bill” Boren; her two daughters, Kimberly B. Castonguay(Mark) and Bonnie B. Wojcik(Tim); three grandchildren, Christian Castonguay, Keira Castonguay, and Melissa Wojcik; her brother, Steve  Stephenson(Janet); sister Beth Carter; and nieces and nephews, Katie, Trent, Todd and Daniel Carter, Douglas Puckett, and Joel Stephenson.

A memorial service will be held at Peninsula Funeral Home on Monday, August 21, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive guests immediately following the service until 5:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.ALZ.org), where a tribute page has been established (Alzheimer’s Association).

    Nell gave me my first job while studying for accounting in college. To this day, much of what I learned I give thanks to her as I have been in practice since 2010 when I worked for her. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Nell was such a blessing to me as to many others, with the sweetest of souls.
