Mildred Maxine Burnett

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Mildred Maxine Burnett, 93, who left this life to be in the arms of her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. She passed peacefully in her sleep at home in Newport News, Virginia.

She was born in the small town of Viper, Kentucky, located in Perry County, on May 18, 1930.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wrex and Essie Evans, all her siblings (Amel, Sybil, Frieda, LaVerne), and two husbands, W.L. Burnett and Les Hicks.

Mildred is survived by eight children: Maurine Frank, Lynne Jenkins (Dennis), Michael Burnett (Suzy), Ronald Burnett, Regina Burnett, Loretta Watson (Donnie), Eula Parks (Garry), Aldea Young (Jim); 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; her niece Kim Moore Wilder; and many close family friends.

She was called Mother, Mildred, Maxine, Grandmother, and Mrs. B, and she led a full life devoted to God, her family, friends, and church. She will live in our hearts forever, and we will never forget her laughter and the positive difference she made in so many people’s lives.

May we all be inspired by the life she lived, the love she shared, and the unwavering faith in God which she shared with so many.

Instead of flowers or donations, please share a memory or act with the family that made an impression in your life.

Thank you to Medi Home Health & Hospice for your care and Peninsula Funeral Home for her final care.

The family will be receiving friends and guests on Saturday, November 18, 2023, for visitation at 1:00 p.m. and a 2:00 p.m. Celebration of Life Service at Warwick United Methodist Church, 38 Hoopes Road, Newport News, VA 23602.

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home.
