Marion Wallace Nesbitt

Marion Wallace Nesbitt, 87, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his adoring family, on Friday, May 3, 2024. He was a native of Old Fort, NC. He then moved with his family as a young boy to Newport News, where he attended school and lived for 53 years. Wally graduated from Newport News High School in 1955, where he played football and ran track. He went on to graduate from the Newport News Apprentice School in 1959, where he continued to run track.

Wally retired after 40 years of dedicated service from the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, retiring as the MI (X43) Night Shift Superintendent. After retirement, Wally made his home in Yorktown, VA, where he lived his remaining 30 years, enjoying “fine-tuning” his lawn on his John Deere Mower “tractor,” watching his beloved Duke and UNC Basketball Teams, watching Kyle and Kurt Busch race, enjoying ice cream on the deck, and attending Northside Christian Church.

Wally was preceded in death by his father, Marion Carlyle Nesbitt; mother, Audrey Meriel Nesbitt; sister, Sandra Nesbitt Johnson; and granddaughter, Tara Anne Nesbitt.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Betty Louise Nesbitt; daughter, Gay N. Marston-Mellon (Mark); son, Jeffrey Wallace Nesbitt (Michele); grandson, Brandon Wallace Marston (Sara); and three great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Brenda Marston Collins and Lisa Marston Johnson for their loving care of Wally during his illness.

Wally will be lovingly remembered in the hearts of those he touched, and his infectious, kind smile and humorous dry wit will keep us forever laughing.

A Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 12, 2024, from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home, followed by a Graveside service at Peninsula Memorial Park on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Northside Christian Church.

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.
