Lonnie Moore passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022, at the age of 78. Both Lonnie and his twin brother, who passed away in infancy, were born in Farmville, VA. Lonnie was a member of the 1962 Class of Hampton High School and began his working career at the Newport News Shipyard. He graduated from the Apprentice School and retired while assigned to Department X51, Production Engineering, as a general foreman after 42 years of service. He also served in the Virginia National Guard Reserve.

He is survived by his brother, Bob Moore (Vivian Skidmore), four sisters, Shirley Stevens of Ohio, Geneva Pinkston of Carrollton, VA, Gloria Chattin (Rick) of Newport News, and Frances Duncan of Gloucester, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Our family extends a special thanks to Lonnie’s neighbors for coming to his aid, and to his long-time buddy, Paul Vuxta, and his doctors and caregivers over the last two years during his battle with mesothelioma.

There will be an empty hole in our hearts left by his departure. God speed.

  1. Doward Lee Stevens

OMG I just found out about Uncle Lonnie passing. My mom and his sister, Shirley Stevens, always said I got my sense of humor from him. If you ever wanted the coolest uncle, that was Lonnie. I remember him riding across country on his Harley, stopping to visit with us in Ohio. I saw him for the last time about a tear or so back. I will miss him very much. My heart is shattered right now.

  2. Teri and Mike Fitzgerald

We have missed seeing Lonnie out and about at City Center and Port Warwick on Wednesday nights. Always so much fun! May he rest in peace. Deepest sympathies to your family

  3. Jim & Edie Colbert

Our sincere condolences to Lonnie’s family. One of a kind, always amusing. Kept us laughing on ski trips at Mount Snow, Vermont where he was known as Doraldo and Bormio, Italy where he was the number 1 attraction/entertainment from the time we left until we got home.
