Douglas P. Smith, 80, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023. He was a native of Newport News and resided on the Peninsula for most of his life.

Doug attended Hargrave Military Academy, Chowan College, and the Rutgers and Northwestern Schools of Business. He retired from Signet Bank as a Trust Officer and served in the Virginia National Guard.

Doug was a past member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, served as a Past President of the Poquoson Lions Club, was a past member of the Rotary Club, and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and skiing and had a private pilot license.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, P. Philip Smith, and his mother, Catherine Smith.

He is survived by his life partner, Joan Wittkamp of Newport News; two sons, Jeff Smith (Michelle) and Michael Smith, both of Newport News; his brother, David Smith (Marcia) of Chesterfield; and three grandchildren: Lindsey Rami (Himay) of Newport News, Alexis Tippett (Trevor) of Smithfield, and Sydney Smith of Newport News.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at All Generations Church, 28 Harpersville Rd, Newport News, VA 23601, followed by a memorial service at the church.
