Joan Ruth Courtney
Joan Ruth Courtney, 89, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. She lived in Newport News for 51 years. Joan worked for G.E. and Mica Plant as a production Worker and retired after 22 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Hewlitt, and her father Pender Kerman. She is survived by her sons, Jade Courtney (Lisa) and Shaolin Courtney (Melissa); 11 grandchildren, Patrick Cannon, Johnny Bray (Mia), Christopher Sharp (Cassandra), Larry Dishler (Jenn), Summer Cunningham (Torin), MeKayla Gore (Avery), Savannah Courtney (Marcellus), Steven Haley Jr., Joshua Haley, and Leslie Courtney; two sisters, Courtney Hudnall, and Sandra Mason; nieces and nephews Chad Hudnall, Pam Schurra, and Kim Wells-Dutton; and extended family and friends, Karen Courtney, Dottie Lamna, and Kathy Branch.
A graveside service, officiated by Pastor David Lekarczyk, will be held on Monday, July 10, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park.
