Harry Maynard Thweatt Jr.

Harry Maynard Thweatt Jr., 83, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2023, in his home surrounded by family.  He was a lifelong resident of Newport News, VA where he worked as a Senior Logistics Analyst for Newport News Shipbuilding. Maynard was an avid golfer and a U.S. Army Veteran, where he received the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and Denbigh United Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon.

Maynard is preceded in death by his father, Harry Maynard Thweatt Sr.; mother, Mary Louise Hart; and brother, Thomas Ross Thweatt.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis Gayle Thweatt; daughters, Phyllis Divine and husband Darby, and Mary Wise; son, Richard Thweatt, and his partner Stacy Heusterberg; brother, Joseph Thweatt, and wife Carol; five grandchildren, Haylee Brooke Thweatt and fiancé Matthew Young, Ethan Riley Heusterberg, Sadie Hope Wise, Asher Max Wise, and Brendan Ross Thweatt. He is also survived by Scott Wise, father of Sadie and Asher.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, February 6, 2023, at Denbigh United Presbyterian Church, 302 Denbigh Blvd., Newport News, VA 23608.

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.

    Maynard was a friend and a bunch of fun to be with. We played meny rounds of golf together at Ft. Eustis and with the PRMC group. My sympathy to the Thweatt family.

    I met and became friends with Maynard as a member of the PRMC group. We played many enjoyable rounds of golf throughout the Tidewater area during our Monday outings. Maynards friendship and comradeship will sorely be missed, but never forgotten. My sincere condolence to the Thweatt

    I am so sorry to hear about Maynard. We lost touch after Jerry passed away but didn’t lose the memories of our friendship or our chip ‘n putt tournaments! He was a good guy and a real friend to Jerry and I.

    The father of my daughter in law Phyllis Divine, we shared soooo many vacations together and the memories he has left me will never be forgotten. But our most memorable vacation was at Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
