Gary Lee Gordon

Gary touched the lives of so MANY people. His laughter, sense of humor, and devotion to his family and friends will always be remembered and cherished. It was the simple things in life that made him happy.

Gary was born to parents Wayne and Sybil Gordon on May 21, 1956, in Bergholz, Ohio. After he lost both parents in early childhood, he was raised by his devoted eldest sister, Sandy. He moved to Virginia as a young adult, where he would meet Debbie. They established their home in Newport News, where they raised their two daughters, Nikki and Kelsey, and he worked for the City of Newport News for decades. After the tragic loss of his first wife, Debbie, he was blessed to find love and happiness again when he met and married his second wife, Kelly. The two blended their families seamlessly. Gary and Kelly enjoyed doting on their children and grandchildren.

Some people spend their whole lives never finding love, but Gary was blessed with two soulmates, Debbie and Kelly.

Memories of Gary will be eternally embraced by the countless friends he made along his journey. He never met a stranger; his sense of humor and smile allowed him to befriend anyone, anywhere. Gary was a jack of all trades and, because of that, everyone’s go-to handyman. He would help anyone who asked, bringing smiles and laughter wherever the job took him. He loved being outside, improving his home, and playing with his dog. Gary enjoyed going to the beach, taking his dog for walks, road trips, and golfing.

Gary is preceded in death by his first wife, Debbie Gordon, parents Wayne and Sybil Gordon, brothers Kenny Gordon and Bill Sack.

Gary is survived by his wife Kelly; children Nikki (Jason), Kelsey (Thomas), and Kyle (Mallory); and grandchildren Julianna, Nella, Kaylynn, Gabe, Roman, Isla and Nora, Haylee, Emma, and Wyatt. He is survived by siblings Alan, Sandy, and Kathy; several beloved aunts and cousins, and remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will cherish memories of their favorite Uncle Gary.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 29, 2024, between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd. Newport News, Virginia 23601.

I don’t know anyone that disliked Gary. You didn’t need to ask him for help; he was always there. He brought humor everywhere. I know no one like him. He’ll be truly missed & loved by Kelly, family & friends. Rest In Peace, My Friend, Rest In Peace.

We are so saddened to hear of Gary’s passing. He would ride by our house on Decatur on his golf cart with Griff and stop to say hi or collaborate with Barry on special projects. We traded tools and ideas. We will truly miss our good neighbor and kind man.
