Franklin Peter Knill, Jr.

Franklin Peter Knill, Jr.,84, passed away at Riverside Regional Hospital on Thursday, November 9, 2023, surrounded by his family. Frank was born on October 7, 1939, in Alexandria, Virginia. Frank earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Richmond and went on to graduate school in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he earned his doctorate and began his career as a psychologist. He leaves behind a legacy of children, adolescents, and adults he helped and with whom he had a profound impact. When Frank was not working, he enjoyed working with stained glass, painting, gardening, playing saxophone in a band, reading, and spending time with his family. It was evident to anyone who knew Frank that he continually radiated a sweet, gentle, and kind spirit. Our hearts are so sorrowful that we must say goodbye, but we take solace in knowing Frank has transcended to a better place and is finally at peace.

He is preceded in death by his father, Franklin Peter Knill, Sr.; mother, Grace Knill; and his sister, Joyce Onesty.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Jean; daughter, Laurie; sons, Matthew, Peter, and David; son-in-law Hank Ratledge; daughter-in-law, Lee Knill. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Peninsula Funeral Home on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 4:00 p.m.

    Laurie, I am very sorry for your loss. I know you and your father were very close, and he had a special place in your heart. You were a wonderful daughter to him, and he knew he was loved; such a wonderful relationship. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers during this time of loss and transition.
