Eugene E. Rich, Jr. passed away at his home on July 6, 2023. Gene, or Little Gene, as family and friends knew him, was a lifelong resident of Newport News. He graduated from Warwick High School and attended Hampden-Sydney College. After Hampden-Sydney, Gene worked at the Shipyard and a local bank.

Gene was preceded by his beloved parents, Eugene E. Rich, Sr., and Lottie K. Rich. He is survived by cousins Nancy Downey, Majorie Pursell, Berniece Rich, Lee Downey, Christopher Downey, William Rich, David Rich, Andrew Rich, and their families.

A graveside service will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Gene’s honor to the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank, 2401 Aluminum Ave, Hampton, VA 23661, or www.hrfoodbank.org.
