Eleanor Lute Lassiter

Eleanor Lute Lassiter went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 2, 2023.  She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. Eleanor was the daughter of Walter and Rowena Lute. She was born in Farmville, Virginia on November 14, 1930. The family moved to Newport News, VA where Eleanor graduated from Warwick High School in 1948.

Eleanor married Robert E. Lassiter in 1952 and they were married for 66 years until his passing. They had two children, Robert Jr. (Bobby) and Pamela. She has three grandchildren who were the joys of her life: Matthew, Kaycie, and Kaitlyn.

She is preceded in death by her husband Robert and son Robert Jr. (Bobby).

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Pamela, and husband Dan Zimmerman, grandchildren, Matthew and Kaitlyn Zimmerman, Kaycie Lassiter; daughter-in-law Sandra; Brother Bill Lute (Jo); niece Kelly Lute of Texas; Cousin Larry Hamilton of Texas; sister-in-law Carolyn Lassiter of Virginia and brother-in-law Edward Lassiter of Florida; her good friend Mr. Jim Sealey, along with many friends and extended family members.

Eleanor’s career included her working for AT&T, where she retired in the early 1980s. She had a successful career as a Real Estate Broker in the 1970s and 1980s.

In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling across the United States in the RV with her husband and spending time with her family. Robert and Eleanor moved to the Chesapeake Retirement Community in Newport News, in 2010. She was known throughout the community as a ray of sunshine, bringing joy to others. She was actively involved with various activities at the retirement community, especially bridge and chess clubs.

The family would like to thank the amazing nursing staff of The Chesapeake Retirement Community for caring for Eleanor as her health began to decline. She called all the staff of Assisted Living her “Angels”.

The family will accept friends at Peninsula Funeral Home on Saturday, March 11, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. t0 2:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow visitation at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or The Chesapeake Retirement Community Benevolent Fund.

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.

    We were so sorry to hear of your Moms passing. We have fond memories of her at Taylor Road Baptist Church and our Drum Creek/Knox Farm neighborhood meetings. She always had a smile and was fun to be with. Praying for you to have God’s peace and comfort.❤️
