Eleanor “Anne” Layton Glover

Eleanor “Anne” Layton Glover passed away peacefully on November 19, 2023, in her home. Anne was born in Mitchell County, Georgia, on June 30, 1936, to the late Elma Lodge Layton and Lucious Layton. She grew up in Pelham, Georgia.

Anne met Hollis Glover in high school when he moved to Pelham, Georgia, and they married just after her graduation. They were faithfully committed to marriage for 68 years. Anne is survived by her son, Hollis Glover, Jr. (Jean); two grandchildren, Ashley Jarrett (Allen) and Austin Glover (Jessie); and five wonderful great-grandchildren, Brooke, Sofia, Olivia, Miles, and Emilia. She was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Jeremiah Jarrett.

Over the years, Anne and Hollis lived in Texas, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, and Washington, DC. Anne was a Personnel Director at Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro, NC. In Virginia, she worked in Military Pay at Fort Eustis and Civilian Personnel at Langley Air Force Base. Following a year spent in Washington, DC, upon her return to Newport News, Anne began a 34-year career as an outstanding REALTOR with Abbitt Realty LLC, winning countless awards each year as a top agent. Her drive and capability to speak to anyone were certainly contributing factors in her success.

Anne was an accomplished seamstress and a wonderful cook. She was devoted to the LORD, Jesus Christ. Anne served many years as a Sunday School teacher for children and teenagers. She was also a Vacation Bible School Director and Sunday School Class Outreach Leader.

From the time that Hollis, Jr. was born, Anne’s dedication to her role as a Mother became her top priority. Her love and care were always there, and later extended to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During all these years, all who knew her could attest that Anne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Anne will be remembered for the caring life she lived in her service to others. May she rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Peninsula Rescue Mission.

The family will have a visitation at Peninsula Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. A graveside service will occur at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Peninsula Memorial Park.

My condolences to the Glover family. May you find comfort from the scripture at Isaiah 25 :8.” He will actually swallow up death forever and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces. What a wonderful future mankind has to look forward to.
