Douglas H. Clemmons, 79, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023. He was a lifelong resident of Newport News.

Doug retired from the Newport News Shipyard after 42 years of service. He was a member of Community Bible Church. Douglas was a Veteran of the US Navy, an avid gardener and carpenter. Doug was a loving husband, father, and Papa.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Melissa Cameron; and his parents, James and Lula Mae Clemmons.

Doug is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Ruth Ann Clemmons; daughter, Tammy Kleppinger; son, Steven Clemmons (Christine); two step-daughters, Kimberly (Clark Hudgins) and Michelle King; sister, Inez Bruce (Terry); brother, James I. Clemmons, Jr.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; and niece, Anna Bruce.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at Peninsula Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. A funeral service will take place on Monday, July 3, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., followed by burial in Peninsula Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the SPCA or the American Cancer Society.
