Carolyn Shockley Ware

Carolyn Shockley Ware, 88, passed away on May 5, 2024, at the Gardens of Warwick Forest after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. She was a native of Newport News, VA, and the daughter of the late Earl and Ethel Shockley. Carolyn graduated from Newport News High School and the Riverside Hospital School of Nursing. Her career of 24 years of nursing included various health department clinics and the Riverside Family Practice. Carolyn volunteered for Red Cross Blood Drives, crocheted baby caps for Mary Immaculate, and served on the Board of The Presbyterian Home.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, Robert Edward “CP” Ware, and sister, Mary L. Shockley.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Kathy Ware Kelsh, and her husband, Brian; son, Robert Michael (Mike) Ware, and his wife, Nancy; five grandchildren, Monica Beals (Troy), Jennifer Ware, Cristin McGarey (Patrick), Erin Kelsh, and Dylan Kelsh; along with three great-grandchildren, Wesley Beals, Hadley, and Rose McGarey.

The family would like to thank the devoted staff of The Gardens at Warwick Forest for caring for Carolyn these past two years and the Evergreen and Keswick staff for caring for Carolyn the four years prior.

A graveside service will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Peninsula Memorial Park, 12750 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23606.
