Bill Doris

On Friday, February 23, 2024, Beloved Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather Bill Doris passed away after a brief illness. A native of New York and Denver, Colorado, he had lived in Newport News for the past 23 years. He was a Rifle Coach while in the Marines. He retired from his job as a computer programmer at IBM after 25 years. In his retirement, he was able to travel to Italy with the love of his life and his wife of 44 years, Karen Doris, before she passed. He was a true adventurer and took up sailing, para-sailing, and kayaking after turning 70! He enjoyed playing shuffleboard with friends and kayaking with his best friend, Brian.

His cherished memory will live on in his children Tammy and her husband Marc LeBouton, Bryan Doris and his wife Lorraine, and Jenny Kempner and her husband David. He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Nikki and her husband Brett, Catie and her husband Angelo, Cassandra, Michael, John, and Logan. He will be missed by his four great-grandchildren, Ava, Myra, Judah, and Charlie.

A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 on Monday, March 18, 2024, at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. Interment and reception will follow, also at the cemetery hall.

Since Bill was known for wearing his cowboy hat, we would love to honor him by wearing a cowboy hat if you have one!

A celebration of life will be held in Newport News at a later date.

Bill was my neighbor and friend for all the years he lived here in Newport News. He was such a friendly, cheerful person with a warm greeting for all. He loved sharing his family pictures and his neighbors enjoyed them with him. He is greatly missed. My love and best wishes to all his family.
