Alice G. Kunowsky Robins

Alice “Mimi” G. Kunowsky Robins died on Wednesday, April 13, 2022. Born in Hyattsville, Md., on Jan. 5, 1925, she was the third of ten children born to the late Mozelle Martin Kunowsky and Charles James Kunowsky.
 
Alice grew up in Washington, where she graduated from McKinley Tech High School. She was employed by the Washington Times Herald newspaper prior to marrying and moving to Newport News as a bride in January 1945. From 1953 to 1978, she was employed by the Department of the Army, Fort Monroe.
 
Alice was a member of Hidenwood Presbyterian Church since 1958. She was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 682, the International Essential Tremor Foundation, McKinley Tech High School Golden Techites and the Newport News Village Homemaker’s Club.
 
She was preceded in death by her dear husband of 54 years, Page Edwards Robins; great-grandson, Donald E. Clifton III; parents; brothers, James, Rudolph, Albert, Robert and William; sisters, Marguerite Edwards, Marion Kunowsky, Gloria Nichols, and Catherine Hulbert;  and dear friend, Evelyn Boyce Cash.
 
Survivors include her daughter, Glenda R. Haines of Newport News; son-in-law, Jim Haines of Melbourne, Florida; son, William Taylor Robins II and wife, Leslie, of Flat Rock, North Carolina; four grandchildren, J.C. Haines Jr. and wife, Ashley, of Hampton, Dawn E. Haines of Newport News, Jennifer R. Clifton and husband, Donald, of Bronson, Florida, and William Taylor Robins III of Portland, Oregon; six great-grandchildren, Donald E. Clifton IV, Mason A. Clifton, Connor S. Clifton, Hailey Paige Clifton Dylan Haines, and Emily Haines; and sister-in-law, Thelma Kunowsky.
 
A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 18, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Peninsula Memorial Park
 
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in memory of Alice Robins to the Essential Tremor Centralized Repository Brain Bank, 5323 Harry Hines Blvd., Suite NL 9.114, Dallas, Texas 75390 or the Memorial Fund, Hidenwood Presbyterian Church, 414 Hiden Blvd., Newport News, VA 23606-2851.

    Mrs. Robins made a scared, young newlywed feel a Part of her world. She fed us, loved us, shared her wonderful family with us…..all in all Mrs. Robins was our family here in Newport News as we started our marriage 50 yrs. ago. She will be out guardian angel in heaven. God BlessMrs. Robins
