Sidney Albert Elmore, Jr.

Sidney Albert Elmore, Jr. slipped into a peaceful sleep on Monday, February 7, 2022, after a long, courageous battle with Huntington’s Disease. He was born on August 3, 1950, in Kinston, North Carolina.

After high school graduation, he joined the United States Air Force in 1968, serving our country for 24 years as an Air Traffic Controller.

Sid was devoted to his family, always encouraging and supporting them with his positive “can do” spirit and wonderful sense of humor.

He enjoyed working in his yard, traveling, going to the beach, watching movies, and just hanging out at home with family and friends. Sid loved his Savior and wanted to do what he thought God wanted him to do.

He was preceded in death by his father, Sidney A. Elmore, Sr., sister, Alice Faye Elmore, and brothers, Lynwood Ray Elmore and Preston Edward Elmore.

A devoted husband and father, he leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 20 years, Catherine Gregory Elmore; sons, Christopher Sheppard Stainback and Christopher Lee Elmore; daughter, Amy Michelle Elmore; mother, Rosa Faye Taylor Elmore; sister, Shirley Elmore Hughes; along with nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and dear friends. We are grateful for his care from Leana Aungst Thorpe from Riverside Palliative and Hospice Cares and his loving caregiver, Christine Hodges Duncan.

Our family will receive friends on Thursday, February 17 at 10:00 a.m. with a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m., with military honors, at Menchville Baptist Church. Pastor James C. Weston will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Huntington Disease Society of America, https://hdsa.org/. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks and peninsulafuneralhome.com/obituary.

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.
