Robert E. Baughan, Jr.

Richard E. Baughan, Jr., 91, passed away on June 3, 2021.  He was born in Norfolk and had been a resident of Hampton for over 60 years.  After graduating from Maury High School, he went to work at Fort Monroe and ended his career as Directorate of Engineering and Housing, Chief of Design Branch.  While working at Fort Monroe, he was a past treasurer of the Fort Monroe Credit Union.  Richard was an avid golfer and was a member of the Metro Seniors Golf Club.  He was active as a coach in all sports for the leagues in Northampton.  He also loved hunting and was a member of the Central Hill Hunt Club in Windsor, VA.  Richard was a Mason and served as Past Master of Army & Navy Masonic Lodge 306 and Past District Deputy Grand Master of Masonic District 14A.

Preceding him in death is his wife of 52 years, Verna D. Baughan, and son, Steven S. Baughan.  He is survived by his daughter, Verna B. Hayes (Roger “R.D.”) of Zuni, VA; son Richard E. Baughan, III (Marsha) of Newport News; two grandsons, Roger D. Hayes (Carrie) of Zuni and Richard E. Baughan, IV (Shauna) of Hampton; great-grandchildren, Bryce M. Hayes and Aubrie and Ricky Baughan; and sister, Joann Carrier.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 7 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.  A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 8 at 1:00 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park.  Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
